Superb Georgian memorial brooch pedant

Set with (approx 28 seed) pearls and (approx 24) garnets this is a a stunning brooch, with a pendant ring too, created in memory of someone unknown now but clearly very important at the time to whoever commissioned this lovely brooch. Formed in gold the frame of pearls and garnets surround a glass window onto a lock of the loved one's hair. And on the back there is a hinged hatch to access the contents.

It measures about 27mm x 21mm (excluding pendant ring). It is around 6mm deep and uses a simple bar and C catch mechanism. Both the hatch and the front window are in clear glass. There is evidence of flea bites to the front glass whihc is chamfered. The hair is arranged in a gold thread holder which also features a pair of small seed pearls.
