A complete St George chess set of club scale with a 3½" King. The pieces are unweighted and all in excellent condition, turned in boxwood and, because they are not felted, with their lathe pips still visible on the bases. The 'Black' set has been stained/dyed.
The condition is so good that it is hard to believe that the set may be 19thC, or possibly early 20thC. The clues point to an independent maker rather than Jacques or Calvert who tend to polish their bases whereas these are left as finished on the lathe.
This set is unboxed and, even I say so myself, a bit of a find.
NB: The Ottoman style chess/backgammon board see in the images is available too, although not listed on the website
