Form: Moulded standing horse with integral under-belly support pillar on a rectangular base
Origin: Staffordshire

An early 19th-century English pearlware figure of a saddled horse, traditional to the Staffordshire potteries of the late Georgian period.
The figure features characteristic Pratt-type underglaze colors, with a sponge-printed manganese dappled coat, painted bridle, and a cobalt blue and ochre saddle. The horse stands on a raised, rectangular base decorated with a mottled green and ochre slip glaze, featuring a central support pillar under the belly to aid firing.
As is standard for regional earthenware animals of this era, the piece is unmarked. It represents an excellent example of early British pottery.
