This is a rare Minton Parian Ware pitcher
Dated by its mark to 1850, this impressive piece of Victroian ceramics depicts the mythological Silenus and Bacchus in high relief. Silenus is shown on one side as an old drunk needing support, while his soon-to-be pupil Bacchus is playfully sitting on the back of a lamb
The sculptural detail mimics marble, a hallmark of Minton’s craftsmanship
Featuring a twisted grapevine handle and botanical details, this authentic antique stoneware jug is a good piece for collectors of English porcelain and Neoclassical art
It is marked on the base with 16, the Minton pattern number for this design, and the clover leaf for the year 1850
