This is a bit special. A very good Qashqai bag or torba, probably Khamseh and almost certainly dating from the 19thC.
Khamseh, meaning 'five', was a 19th-century confederation of five partially nomadic tribes in Southern Persia whose rugs are related in style and geographically to the Qashqai and Afshar traditions. The Khamseh confederation of tribes begain in c.1861/2. You can find out more about the Khamseh on Wikipedia, and the web.
This Torba, or bag, was woven by hand for the nomadic life, to be stuffed with clothes or other items to transport between camps, where it would have doubled as a cushion, and that is its purpose now. It is fastened at the top by four modern buttons that fit thought the pre-existing holes for the original string lashing.
It dates from c.1880, or maybe a little earlier, and is almost certainly made using vegetable dyes. It is loosely stuffed with soft foam inter-lining, and could be used as is for years, or you may prefer to add your own cushion. Either way, the design and colours are beautiful, and from an important region in the history of traditional handwoven carpets and bags.
