An exceptional 7" (18cms) cream-glazed porcelain vessel featuring a deliberate crackle finish and a cobalt blue washed rim
This exquisite porcelain bowl is a very fine example of Edmund de Waal’s early work, dating from his highly collectible period in the 1990s. It is masterfully potted with a rich, dark-blue cobalt wash along the rim that has been carefully and deliberately allowed to bleed into the pale cream body. The unglazed foot ring reveals the fine white porcelain body and bears the potter's distinct impressed square seal mark near the base. The interior features a beautifully realised, deliberate crackle glaze that pays direct homage to Chinese traditions
A superb acquisition for collectors of contemporary British studio pottery, and especially early Edmund de Waal ceramics, this piece beautifully bridges de Waal's interest in minimalism and traditional craftsmanship

Provenance: This bowl has been in the same ownership since it was gifted to my customer in the early 1990s by the then girlfriend of Edmund de Waal's brother, who purchased it directly from de Waal
Condition: Excellent condition throughout; the interior crackle is entirely stable and a deliberate feature of the glaze. The piece is free of restoration, cracks, nibble and flea bites. It is as it was made
