SOLD

A fine and highly decorative nursery rocking horse by F.H. Ayres, retailed by Selfridges & Co, with the original retailer’s stamp still very clear on the base.
Dating from circa 1930, this English rocking horse has its original painted surface, as well as a real horsehair mane and tail. Typical of Ayres it has a well-proportioned carved form, with a very elegant and expressive head, and realistic glass eyes. Mounted on a sturdy rocking frame, this example comes complete with a fully restored traditional saddle and all leather tack
As well as being a decorators dream, this wonderful horse is ready for a young rider to take their first ride into the world of rocking horses
A classic example of early 20th-century British toy making, ideal as a statement piece for a country house interior, nursery or collector of antique rocking horses, stock from famous British retailers, and Ayres
