Dating from the early 19thC, this miniature chest of drawers has campaign elements that make me wonder if it was an officers chest for his buttons, cufflinks, collars, studs etc as he travelled with his command?
Lovely piece. The full-front door opens to reveal the ten drawers, eight of which are half width and two full width. Each drawer has matching turned bone or ivorine pulls. It is fashioned in mahogany and satinwood, and has a functioning lock and key, although there is some damage in this area. The door has also got a crack running top to bottom, but this has been stabilised and is no more than one might expect in piece that has celebrated its 200th birthday.
It still has years of useful life in it, and would make a wonderful collectors chest, or jewellery box, a place for all your knick knacks and so on: every home should have one.
