An absolutely superb campaign chest, in mahogany, and stamped for J&W Lowndes of Haymarket, London. The condition of this chest is really first class: it retains its original screw-in feet and the two securing bolts that hold the two halves together. Each drawer has a lock, but sadly no keys (unless I find one in time), and the handles are all original and in fine condition too.
The colour of this chest is quite something too. It is rich, warm and inviting. As you can probably tell, I think it is a wonderful prece of furniture and whoever buys it will be acquiring a superb example.
J&W Lowndes are listed in Johnstones trade list of 1888 as 'equipage manufacturers'. It seems that they started in circa 1790, and by 1850 had ceased or merged. As a consequence it is fair to comment that furniture by them and so well marked, by stencil to every drawer in this instance, is rare to find.
The price here is for collection from the shop, which allows for viewing first, however I can arrange delivery to your address by courier and you can generate a quote here or I can suggest alternatives if you prefer.
