Antique Edwardian swivel desk chair by Angus, London

Maker: Wm. Angus & Co. Ltd., London
Period: Edwardian / Early 20th Century (circa 1905–1915)
Primary Materials: Oak and Leather
Design: Arts & Crafts

In good antique condition, this high back oak desk chair sits on its original, fully working height adjustable swivel mechanism. The adjusting wheel is fully marked for respected maker Angus, London. The frame is in excellent condition, made from oak which has matured to a lovely warm colour. There are no cracks or splits in the wood. The leather seems to be original and has a softness only achieved over time. There is a little wear showing, most notably on the pads on the swept armrest, but nothing more than I would expect from a chair of this age - see images.
The chair is supported on a four leg base, which is firm and secure, and there are four new brass castors with rubber wheels.
The chair dates from the Edwardian period, and it is of a good arts and crafts design, lacking fussy inessentials, just elegant and very practical, and of course with that high back it is very comfortable.

A note about Angus
Established in London (with extensive showrooms on Paul Street, Finsbury), Angus was highly regarded for producing top-tier, robust office furniture. They were particularly famous for importing and manufacturing American-style roll-top desks and high-end mechanical seating for the British professional market.
