A very, very good-looking ring that, despite its age, seems to have hardly been worn. It is very clearly hallmarked on the inside of the band (see final photo).
It is 18ct gold and bears a total of nine of 'old-cut' diamonds, five in the central band, and two on either side, that catch the light and sparkle away like mad. The design is in a 'cross-over' pattern and is a very smart ring, with a strong scroll-like carving at the shoulders that appear to support the centre.
The ring is a size J, US 5, giving a band circumference of about 47mm. The marks are for the city of Chester, and the maker SU is Samuel Usher of Vyse St, Birmingham, with a date letter of R for 1900.
