A striking Art Deco 1920s coiled serpent bangle made from mottled honey-coloured celluloid in a striking imitation of tortoiseshell. The overlapping, or bypass, design features handset faceted paste rhinestones flanked by delicate metal stud work tracing the head shape. Early plastic jewellery featuring animal forms remains exceptionally sought-after, making this wearable 1920s statement piece a classic collector's item.
Condition is really excellent with no missing stones or studs, and no chips, fleabites, or cracks in the celluloid. The diameter given above (6cms) is the inner measurement, and the bypass design allows it to widen a little to slide easily over the hand.
A fabulous, charming antique piece of 'on-trend' jewellery and with the snake design so much more interesting than a plain bangle: a real talking point.
