A rare find indeed: a 1958 Christian Dior Pegasus brooch, created while Yves Saint Laurent was head of the famous fashion house.
It is made in a gilt (non precious) metal and the flying horse is under-strung by five silver painted faux pearls. I think the pearls are significant to the myths of Pegasus and I am sure five minutes on the web will help you decide if they are the surf he gallops across, or perhaps the constellation named for him, or something else
The condition of this piece reflects its age and materials. It comes to me from a local home and I have decided not to clean it. It is as it was last worn whne it was put in a drawer and forgotten.
