Sometimes known as Butler's mirrors, this convex mirror, with its antique gilt finish and ebonised and reeded slip really looks the part. It gives the impression of being much older than it is, looking fully Regency, but it is Edwardian in date and has a later back panel more recently added.
The traditional convex glass gives a fisheye view, hence the use by Butlers, and reflects light particularly well. This style works as well in narrow spaces such as hallways as it does in large traditional rooms, providing that authentic country house feel.
The decoration is splendid with ribbon ties around the edge leading into raised ball ornaments (all present and correct) and with the ebonised slip holding the original glass (29cms diameter) firmly in place.
Condition is as you'd want it to be, very good with the little elements that give it just the right amount of the patina of age.
This keenly priced versatile statement mirror is on view in the shop.
