Steve Camps (b 1957) is an artist based in Cornwall. He paints in the popular naive manner of Alfred Wallis, Fred Yates etc. Much more can be found about Camps on the internet, and he is represented by a gallery in Falmouth. His paintings entertain and amuse and have clearly found a niche. They sell very quickly. This painting comes from my private collection
This is typical of his work in that it depicts one of his favourite subjects, the whale. But not many show the whale leaping over a fishing boat: a very playful image.
The painting is simply framed in a pine frame made by the artist himself. He makes his own frames, or adapt antique frames he has collected over the years.
The outer measures 19" x 15" (approx 48 x 38cms) and the image size is approx 1¾" (4.5cms) smaller.
