Steve Camps (b 1957) is an artist based in Cornwall. He paints in the very popular naive manner of Alfred Wallis, Fred Yates etc. Much more can be found about Camps on the internet, and he is represented by a gallery in Falmouth. His paintings entertain and amuse and have clearly found a niche. They sell very quickly.
This painting is typical of his work. He most often paints whales, some examples of which are listed, but he also paints farm animals in the same naive style. SCamps, as he is sometimes known, has said that when he started painting in 2023 he didn't sign his work because he thought no one would like it. How wrong he was. His prices have risen by a factor of ten in the first three months of the year.
The painting is simply framed in black painted pine, created by the artist himself either from scratch or using vintage/antique frames he has collected over the years.
The outer measures approx 46 x 37cms and the image size is approx 34 x 24 cms.
